The first Toronto Smashers Badminton League was hosted in 2019 to one division with five teams. It evolved into four divisions with 22 teams and over 200 players in 2023. Over 300 people visited the venue to watch the games.
The 5th Annual League Tournament was a huge success, and it set high standards and expectations among the players and sponsors for the following year. As usual, every event that Toronto Smashers organized events has created a new milestone and an example for others. Markham Pan Am Centre is known for hosting high-performance provincial, national and international games. This year, the Pan Am Center venue was added an extra credit to the tournament.
Over 70 volunteers and the League and Club Executive members supported the tournament. Everyone was concerned about the entry fees when registering, but after the tournament, everyone questioned how we managed the budget.
The complement of food and drinks throughout the tournament is another distinct feature of the Toronto Smashers Badminton League. Further, we never limit the use of feather birdies to the games, so players don’t have to worry about limited birdies and using their own.
Over ten national and international Champions participated in the tournament, and they were all impressed with the well-organized games. There is no doubt for another milestone tournament next year. We will announce next year’s tournament date soon. Further, all the teams that qualified for the playoffs this year are prioritized for next year’s tournament.
